The billboard lights we’ll never hate
They erase the times pre ’98
When dollar and sex stores paved the way
And kept the tourists well at bay
But soon a New York planner said,
“A revitalization project, I will head!”
He’ll get rid of garbage, filth and crime
And replace it with a Calvin Klein
With support from Smitherman, Rae and Rye
Buildings were expropriated but with a sigh
From business owners who didn’t want to leave
They had no choice but to pack up and grieve
A movie complex will be built
But Ryerson should feel no guilt
For it will hold many classes inside
To the surprise of students left starry-eyed
The university will has classes in a mall
Since Rye’s property is oh so small
So it’s buying up land both left and right
Much to President Levy’s giddy delight
The school right now is on the street
See the building where Yonge-Dundas meet?
It also has the old Future Shop and Sam’s to boot,
Gee, isn’t Rye’s Master Plan a major hoot?
The Ryerson lights we’ll never hate
They erase the times pre ’98
When classrooms were well under decay
And kept the students well at bay
