As I wandered around Regent Park today in the drizzling rain, I watched children and teenagers come home from school. They were happy, cheerful - after all, it is Friday, and everyone knows TGIF. A break from school, a chance to do nothing with your time.
As I saw these people, I couldn't help but wonder - what do they think of us? The journalists who come in, poke and prod their neighbourhood, and leave with a story and a judgment. My God, they must be sick of us! They must hate seeing us wandering around with cameras and notepads! I know I would if I were them. I would hate them for propagating a stereotype, for coming into my home and telling me what it's like to live where I do.
I hope to God I don't do this to them.
I hope that, when I am done my story, they read it and say "Yes, she got it right."
I hope that's what they think of all of us when we're all done this website.
